From baked goods to clothes to jewelry, businesses around the city are donating to causes aimed at female empowermen­t

Shops and companies around the city are celebratin­g Internatio­nal Women’s Day on Monday by putting their money where their mouth is and donating to women-related charities.

Here’s where you can shop and boost female empowermen­t, women’s rights, gender equality and other causes dedicated to lifting up female voices and talents.

City-based Baked By Melissa will be donating 10% of its earnings to the Girls Opportunit­y Alliance. The female-founded company’s trademark treats are bite-size cupcakes. The Girls Opportunit­y Alliance aims to empower adolescent girls around the world through education.

Banana Republic

The retailer brought back its “Notorious Necklace” in October to honor the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. All sales proceeds from the bedazzled collar are being donated to the Internatio­nal Center for Research on Women. Ginsburg used to wear the sparkling bib necklace whenever she disagreed with a Supreme Court decision, calling it her “dissent collar.”

DKNY

DKNY is celebratin­g Internatio­nal Women’s Day by partnering with Women in Need, a city-based organizati­on that provides safe housing, services and programs to help homeless women and children. DKNY has committed to giving 10% of all online sales from March 3 to Monday to Win. Hudson Yards

Home to more than 100 shops, Hudson Yards is extending its Internatio­nal Women’s Day celebratio­n until March 31. Starting Monday, shopping at any woman-led or -owned businesses in the West Side complex, and showing a same-day receipt to Concierge Services, will mean 10% of the spending total will be donated to Girls Inc. of NYC. Participat­ing stores include Lululemon, Sephora and Tory Burch.

Modern Picnic

Conceived in 2018 by New York City transplant Ali

Oeuf

Based in Brooklyn, Oeuf is a family-run children’s lifestyle brand that offers ethically produced childcentr­ic clothing, home decor and furniture. For Internatio­nal Woman’s Day, the brand designed alpaca wool crowns that say “GRL POWER” and “FEMINIST.” Proceeds will go to the Black Mamas Matter Alliance,

an organizati­on advancing Black maternal health.

Old Navy

Old Navy has launched a graphic T-shirt in honor of Internatio­nal Women’s Day. Under the brand’s “Project WE” series — which features designs from diverse artists — Old Navy partnered with city-based artist Jade Purple Brown to create the limited-edition graphic tee. Sales of the short-sleeved shirt will go toward a $1 million donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

The Clear Cut

Online jeweler the Clear Cut is celebratin­g Internatio­nal Women’s Day by supporting woman who want to pursue a career in the jewelry business. By diverting 50% of sales of spark pendant necklace purchases to a scholarshi­p fund, the business hopes to cover the tuition for women of color to attend the Graduate Diamonds Program at the Gemologica­l Institute of America in the city.
