Trump their message
The most recent former president, a natural born winner, must be thinking that the public service ad that a bunch of former loser presidents and their wives made about getting COVID vaccines had shoddy production values, bad lighting, low energy and, worst of all, lousy ratings. It was a dud, a real dog, although in a good cause.
Old, flabby naked arms getting needles. Gross. Donald Trump could do better. And should do better. He should do his own PSA, with pop and pizzazz. Trump, the master promoter, should be promoting the vaccine that he made possible and that he and his wife Melania both took in January.
As Trump said last week when the Carter/ Clinton/Bush/Obama video appeared: “I hope everyone remembers when they’re getting the COVID-19 (often referred to as the China Virus) Vaccine, that if I wasn’t president, you wouldn’t be getting that beautiful ‘shot’ for 5 years, at best, and probably wouldn’t be getting it at all. I hope everyone remembers!”
People do remember and he should help them by pushing his shot and persuading the 74,216,152 Americans who voted for him last year to follow his lead and get a COVID vaccine. His vote total was two higher than that, but he and Melania are already accounted for, having been vaccinated before the end of his term.
Yet, too many Republicans are saying no thanks, turning down Trump’s miracle cure, with about half of Republican men declining, according to opinion polling. Also, a quarter of the GOP members of the House have passed on the vaccines offered. For their top man, Trump, to urge them along, “it would make all the difference in the world” says Dr. Tony Fauci.
It was Trump’s administration that propelled scientists, researchers, doctors and pharmaceutical giants to find the right formulas that will save millions of lives, here and around the world. And they did it in record time. It’s Trump’s vaccine. He should sell it and the price is free.
Trump should also want to outdo his predecessors, who he sees as weak. After all, isn’t he tougher than any of them? Didn’t he get COVID and totally beat it? Yet he still got the shot. The same for Melania. By the transitive property, getting vaccinated against COVID is for people who are tough and winners.
This even though he’s a month older than Bush and two months older than Clinton.
And he’s more popular. By a lot. Trump got more votes than any of them. He got more than any sitting president has ever gotten. More than Carter won either in his two runs. More than Bill Clinton in two elections. More than Bush when he was a candidate twice. More than Obama ever won. Their best showings are all far below his: Obama 69 million, Bush 65 million, Clinton 47 million, Carter 39 million. Trump’s 74 million also swamped Hillary’s 65 million.
The COVID vaccine was created, tested, approved and distributed under Trump’s watch. That’s no joke and something that he should be proud of. Now he needs to help to get it protecting people.
