Reports: Seattle considered Russell offer
The Seahawks considered a blockbuster Bears trade offer for Russell Wilson but turned down three first-round picks and more, according to multiple reports.
The Bears offered the Seahawks three first-round picks, a thirdround pick and two starting players, according to “The Dan Patrick Show.”
Chicago actually was giving the Seahawks its pick of multiple players on the Bears’ roster, including pass rusher Khalil Mack and defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, per CBS Sports.
The Seahawks “discussed” the offer and even “slept on it,” per NFL Network, but ultimately said no. The Bears’ low first-round pick (No. 20) and the absence of a quarterback to send back to Seattle impeded a deal, per CBS Sports.
Coach Pete Carroll specifically “does not want to rebuild,” the league network said. However, that characterization conflicts with Seattle’s serious consideration of the deal and with ESPN’s hedge that the Bears were told that “Seattle is not trading him at this time.”
That leaves the door open for Seattle to trade Wilson down the road.
The Daily News had reported on Monday that the Wilson sweepstakes was heating up with Chicago as the most serious player. The News also reported that Carroll has a high opinion of Sam Darnold and would consider acquiring him if Seattle traded Wilson, per a source.
Despite the Bears’ “very aggressive pursuit” of Wilson, as described by ESPN, Chicago settled for signing Cowboys backup QB Andy Dalton.
Chicago GM Ryan Pace and coach Matt Nagy are on the hot seat entering 2021. Losing out on Wilson is an enormous letdown.
