Brooklyn Charter School… where we are building bridges to tomorrow.

-

The Brooklyn Charter School (BCS) opened its doors to the children of Bedford Stuyvesant in September of 2000. BCS is the first charter school of Bedford Stuyvesant and the first charter approved by the New York City Department of Education. BCS believes that every child has the ability to learn and therefore deserves the best opportunities to excel in school and in life. We bring this vision to reality through a core academic curriculum in English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. We further incorporate the use of the latest learning technologies as an integral instructional tool through the use of specific software and hardware, and the worldwide web. Our technology specialist utilizes Mac laptop labs across all grades, ensuring that all students in grades K-5 have an opportunity to learn basic and advanced computer skills. BCS prides itself in its creative arts programming. BCS students participate in dance and music classes on a weekly rotating schedule. These classes are an opportunity for students to develop inherent skills, define their identity based on individual talents, and encompass projects and experiences that connect them to the world outside of Brooklyn Charter. BCS also offers chess, health classes and other electives during the school day to enhance the learning experience for our children. As an educational institution, we understand the nature of our challenging global communities and prepare our students for success in an ever-changing world.

Safe & family oriented culture

Our secret weapon to fostering a safe and positive culture is building confidence as a foundation for committed effort and learning. When children operate in environments infused with positivity and accountability, intrinsic motivation becomes the norm. Simply stated, BCS is the school that our students call home.
