A New York icon deserved better

- Tierra Sweat

College Park, Md.: I am a 25-year-old who grew up on DMX’s music and who experienced the legendary mark he left on his community. The utter gall of you all to print Saturday’s frontpage cover that compares Prince Philip as “beloved” and DMX as “troubled” is beyond vile and disgusting. How dare you disrespect him, his legacy and his grieving family by printing something like that? DMX was a brilliant artist who struggled with child abuse and addiction. But above it all, he remained beloved, supported and well-respected by millions across the world. So how dare you print something like that on the front page next to a white man who has had troubles of his own? Shall we even begin to mention his recent allegations of racism toward Meghan Markle — or, I’m sorry, is that not what your news publication considers troubled?

As a news publication, you all have the responsibility to the public to get the news and get it right. This time, please allow me to inform you — if you haven’t received enough backlash already — you got it very wrong. There is an entire community offended by what you all printed on your cover that is now circulating all over social media. I advise you all to issue an apology, not that it would mean much, but out of respect for that man’s family and all the good he left behind in this world.

I am completely appalled by your lack of class, tact, compassion and basic ability to report the truth. Good luck defending yourselves against critics on this one. This was a major mess-up.
