B’klyn party carnage vic was with ‘target,’ father says

A Bronx dad and his boss were killed in a chaotic, bloody shooting at a Brooklyn party — and one victim’s family fears gang violence from their native Jamaica may have followed them to New York.

Two separate videos captured the bloody aftermath of an early Sunday shooting at the Brooklyn Garden Event Space on Wortman Ave. and Sheffield Ave. in East New York; five men were shot, two fatally.

Nicholas Palmer and his boss at an air conditioner repair business, Novada Bailey, both 36, were fatally shot in an Infiniti sedan parked a block away from the venue; a third man, 51, was wounded there. Two more men, ages 37 and 32, were shot inside the event space.

“My son was in the wrong place at the wrong time because he was promoting a party for someone. He had no clue what was going on, he died for no reason whatsoever,” Palmer’s father, Donovan Palmer, 57, told the Daily News on Monday.

“My friend who is a cop in Jamaica told me, it’s a longtime war in Jamaica between two gangs,” he said.

Police confirmed the shooting was gang-related, but had no additional details.

One shocking video shows Palmer lifeless, dangling from the passenger seat of the Infiniti — and Bailey shot and not moving in the driver’s seat — while the 51-yearold victim is seen sitting on the ground, his bloody legs splayed wide as he wails in pain.

The other video, taken inside the venue, shows several women clad in white party dresses surrounding a victim and applying pressure to his neck.

“Just put pressure!” one woman yells as another repeatedly shouts: “Breathe! Breathe! Breathe!”

Police believe the shooting was sparked by an argument at the party, which featured a performance stage, DJ, and more than 100 revelers.

“He was just going to dance. All of them wanted to promote the party, his friend was promoting the party and he just went to support him,” said Palmer’s cousin, Richard Palmer. “He said, ‘Let me call you back later’ because he was going to the party, picking up a few things, and then I never heard back from him.”

Palmer’s father said his son had three young children and stayed out of trouble.

“All I can say is that my son was not a violent person, was not in a gang, and I’ll put my life on the line for that,” Donovan Palmer said. “The only thing he did wrong was he was hanging out with the guy who was in the driver’s seat.”

He also said he didn’t know his son was promoting parties.

“This was a shock to me. My son worked, came home, took care of his kids. He had three kids, two girls and one boy. He spent 90% of his time with his kids,” the grieving dad said. “This gang thing is so shocking, I didn’t even know about the gang problem in Jamaica till this happened right here. This is very disturbing.”

Donovan Palmer also said his son may have been marked for death because of a chance encounter at the party.

“There was a guy who came over to take a picture with his boss ... [who] was the target of whatever was going on in Jamaica. By shaking that person’s hand, the shooter or whoever put two and two together and guessed they were part of the gang,” he said.

Cops have made no arrests in the slayings and ask that anyone with information call (800) 577-TIPS.

“This is a nightmare like something from a movie. This is not real,” Donovan Palmer said, noting he suffers from health problems and high blood pressure and wants to stay calm to help care for his grandchildren.

“I am breaking down every few minutes,” he said. “I can’t afford to go back to the hospital, I’m just trying to keep it as simple as I can.”
