Gwendolyn Morgan (nee Hill) of New Hampton, NY passed away at Garnet Health Center on August 2, 2021. Gwen was born to the late Joseph Hill and Dorena Riley on December 16, 1938, in Statesvill­e, North Carolina and was raised by her late Uncle Charlie and Aunt Georgia Harper. She attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English in 1959. After working for a few years as a Teacher in the South, she moved to the Bronx, NY to live with her mother and began her career in Social Work for the New York City Department of Social Services. She retired after approximat­ely 33 years of service in 1994. Gwendolyn Hill and Hasan Abdul Mateen (FKA Harry Morgan) entered into a union until 1985 and together they had one child, Tasha Patrice Morgan.In 2000, Gwen left the Bronx and moved to New Hampton to live with Tasha and Mark to help raise her first grandchild Braxton, and later Madison and Tyson. She was a loving grandmothe­r and her grandchild­ren were the joys of her life. Gwen was an independen­t and private person who enjoyed life. She was easy to talk to, had strong opinions, and with a sharp wit and free laugh, people liked to be around her. She started each day with a cup of hot tea and lemon and reading her daily scripture and other religious passages. In addition to reading the daily news her hobbies also included reading fiction, solving word puzzles, and watching her favorite shows. Loving to drive, she also enjoyed excursions, visiting various places to shop for household items and gadgets. In May of this year, Gwendolyn suffered a stroke. Subsequent complicati­ons led to her unexpected passing on August 2, 2021. Gwen was at peace with her life and enjoyed the love and support of her family and friends. Being a loving mother, grandmothe­r, aunt, cousin and friend, she will be missed by all. Gwendolyn is survived by her dedicated daughter, Tasha Clark and her son-inlaw, Mark Clark, her grandchild­ren, Braxton, Madison, and Tyson Clark. She is also survived by cousins, her closest being Wanda Joyce Ferree of the Bronx, NY and Dr. Zollie Stevenson, Jr. Annapolis, Maryland, MD, and a host of other family members and friends.
