It’s Sirius: Cuomo is off the air
Days after being dumped by CNN, embattled broadcaster Chris Cuomo announced Monday that he was stepping away from his “Let’s Get After It” radio show, too.
“The way my time at CNN ended was hard,” Cuomo (photo) began the farewell letter to SiriusXM he posted to Twitter on Monday.
“While I have thick skin, I also have a family, for whom the past week has been extraordinarily difficult,” his statement continued. “So now, I have to take a step back and focus on what comes next. That means I will no longer be doing my SiriusXM radio show.”
The 51-year-old Queens native’s ethics came under fire last week when documents released by the state attorney’s general’s office claimed he had used his influence as a journalist to help his brother, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, combat numerous sexual harassment claims. The younger Cuomo has since been accused of sexual misconduct himself.
Cuomo said he’s grateful for the support the satellite radio station has given him and he also thanked his fans.
“I will miss our conversations a great deal — but I look forward to being back in touch with you all in the future,” he signed off.
CNN cut ties with Cuomo Saturday, announcing his termination was “effective immediately.”
Last Wednesday, after first being suspended by CNN, Cuomo told his SiriusXM audience he planned to move forward while the cable news channel’s investigative process ran its course.
“Quick note about the obvious,” he said. “I’ve been suspended from CNN . ... You know this already. It hurts to even say it. It’s embarrassing, but I understand it. And I understand why some people feel the way they do about what I did.”
He apologized for putting his colleagues in a difficult position while his personal drama played out on a public stage.
“So for right now, let’s just get after it and there’s plenty to do on that score,” he said.
A SiriusXM spokesman affirmed to the Daily News that Cuomo’s tweet Monday marked the end of his relationship with that platform.
“Following Chris Cuomo’s statement that he is leaving his SiriusXM show, ‘Let’s Get After It’ will no longer air,” the outlet verified. “We thank Chris for his work at SiriusXM.”
