Hall gets best of Rutgers

Baylor holds Nova to 36 points

Bryce Aiken scored 22 points and Jared Rhoden notched 16 points with nine rebounds to lead No. 23 Seton Hall past Rutgers, 77-63, on Sunday night in the Garden State Hardwood Classic in Newark.

Kadary Richmond added 12 points for the Pirates (9-1), and Alexis Yetna scored 10 points and seven rebounds. Myles Cale also chipped in with 10 points.

Aiken was selected the Joe Calabrese MVP in the rivalry game between New Jersey’s premier basketball schools.

Caleb McConnell scored 13 points with 12 rebounds for the Scarlet Knights (55), who were coming off a thrilling win Thursday night at home over No. 1 Purdue on a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Ron Harper Jr. from just inside halfcourt.

Harper scored 30 points with 10 rebounds in that game, but was held to 10 points on 3-of-12 shooting in this one.

ST. JOHN’S 82, COLGATE 64

Julian Champagnie scored 19 points as St. John’s beat Colgate in Queens.

Champagnie went 5 for 7 on 3-pointers while Posh Alexander scored 15 points to go along with seven rebounds for St. John’s (8-2). Rafael Pinzon added 14 points. Dylan Addae-Wusu scored 10 points.

Colgate scored 29 points in the second half, a season low for the team.

Jack Ferguson scored 21 points for the Raiders (4-7). Keegan Records added 11 points and three blocks. Oliver Lynch-Daniels scored 10 points.

MIAMI 72, FORDHAM 66

Charlie Moore scored 18 points and Miami made six free throws in the closing minute to edge Fordham at Barclays Center.

Isaiah Wong added 17 points and Kameron McGusty 15 for the Hurricanes (8-3), who chose to play at the home of the Nets because the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament will be there in March.

McGusty made a critical three-point play with 1:46 to go after Fordham’s Kam’ron Cunningham hit a pair of 3-pointers to cut a 10-point Miami lead to 63-59.

PURDUE 82, N.C. STATE 72

Trevion Williams scored a season-high 22 points to go with 12 rebounds and a career-best nine assists to help No. 1 Purdue rally past North Carolina State in overtime Sunday in the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitation­al in Brooklyn.

Jaden Ivey added 22 points for the Boilermake­rs (9-1), who had to rally from 13 down midway through the second half to win this one. And Purdue never led in regulation, taking its first lead Sasha Stefanovic’s 3-pointer 15 seconds into the extra period.

Stefanovic also hit a driving layup with 21.5 seconds left to force the overtime, ultimately helping Purdue bounce back from a last-second loss at Rutgers in the program’s first-ever week atop The Associated Press men’s college basketball poll.

BAYLOR 57, VILLANOVA 36

James Akinjo scored 16 points with seven rebounds and second-ranked Baylor defensivel­y dominated No. 6 Villanova on Sunday, a victory that’s likely to put the defending national champion Bears in the top spot in the new poll.

The Bears (9-0) never trailed in their first nonconfere­nce home game ever against a top-six opponent, this one a rematch of an NCAA Sweet 16 game last March in Indianapol­is. This Big East/Big 12 Battle matchup featured the teams that won three of the last five NCAA titles.

Villanova (7-3) shot only 22% (12 of 54) and went through several extended scoring droughts while being held to its fewest points in 689 games under coach Jay Wright, who is in his 21st season.

Adam Flagler scored 10 points as Baylor, which won its 15th game in a row dating to last season, shot 39% (22 of 56) and was held under 69 points for the first time this season. Jeremy Sochan scored nine points with 10 rebounds before fouling out.

Justin Moore scored 15 points for the Wildcats.

NAVY 67, MARIST 61

Tyler Nelson posted 13 points as visiting Navy beat Marist.

Greg Summers scored 12 points with six rebounds for the Midshipmen (7-3). Sean Yoder added 11 points. John Carter Jr. scored 10 points.

Ricardo Wright scored 18 points with seven rebounds for the Red Foxes (4-5). Jao Ituka added 17 points. Samkelo Cele scored 10 points.

ST. PETER’S 87, NYACK 48

Fousseyni Drame scored a career-high 22 points and added 12 rebounds as St. Peter’s routed Nyack in Jersey City.

Drame made 10 of 11 shots. Daryl Banks III scored 15 points for St. Peter’s .
