An empty bullet chamber saves ex, but her beau slain in B’klyn

The girlfriend of a man fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend in Brooklyn said the scorned lover aimed to kill her too after the grisly slaying — but when he pulled the trigger the chamber was empty.

“He said, ‘You chose him, this is what you made me do,’ ” Kilse Ogandl, 30, told the Daily News.

Ogandl said she told her 6-year-old daughter to hide in another room while her boyfriend and father of their little girl, Justin Moncada, investigated a break-in at her house on 83rd St. at 14th Ave. in Bensonhurst about 12:15 a.m. on Saturday.

Adam Thomas, 31, allegedly climbed through a front window looking to confront Ogandl and Moncada.

“They wrestled for the door,” Ogandl told The News. “He was outside the door and he shot 10 to 15 times.”

The shots went through the bedroom door and at least one slug hit Moncada in the head, killing him.

“He left and then came back and tried to kill me but when he cocked the gun to me, there was no bullets,” Ogandl told The News. “He screamed at me, I was begging for more life.”

Ogandl called 911 and cops arrested Thomas at the home. He was charged with murder, attempted murder, robbery, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon. At his arraignment Sunday night in Brooklyn Criminal Court, Thomas was ordered held without bail. His next court date is Thursday.

Ogandl and Thomas broke up earlier this month after he stole her car, crashed it and abandoned it, the rattled mom recounted.

“He was jealous,” she said of Thomas. “He had no remorse.”

Moncada’s mother Evelin Vargas said her son had been looking forward to spending Christmas with his daughter.

“Oh my, he took my baby, he took a good boy,” Vargas said through tears at her Bronx home. “He wasn’t in the street, he worked all his life.”

“He was a good father,” she added. “He loved his daughter so much. He was a good dad.”

Vargas described Thomas as a “coward,” while her husband said he hopes for a swift judicial outcome.

“We’re traumatized and I know she is too. We just want to support her,” said Moncada’s father, Dustin Martinez.

“I know for a fact my son was in there and he saved their life so I considered him a hero.”

In an eerily similar incident recently, a man was gunned down in a Queens apartment when the father of his girlfriend’s children climbed through a window drunk and armed.

Tommy Carrillo, 27, was living with his girlfriend and two daughters in Jackson Heights when the ex-beau broke in Dec. 11.

The two men struggled over the gun before Carrillo was shot. The shooter fled and is still being sought.
