A Brooklyn woman accused of dropping her 6-month-old son from her second-floor apartment balcony onto the concrete below has been charged with attempted murder, police said Saturday.

Breindy Meisels, 29, is also facing attempted manslaughter, endangering the welfare of a child and abandonment of a child for the early morning horror show Thursday on 51st St. near 19th Ave. in Mapleton, cops said.

Cops were called to the home (photo) about 4:50 a.m. and were greeted by the baby’s father, police said.

He told officers he was sleeping when Meisels woke him up to say she had dropped the infant from the balcony, cops said.

The baby was found outside the building and was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center with several broken ribs and other fractured bones on the child’s left side, where he landed, police sources said.

The child remained in the hospital’s intensive care unit Saturday, authorities said.

The infant was born in October.

Meisels was arrested Friday afternoon and was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell to undergo a psychological evaluation.

Neighbors were horrified.

“It’s unbelievable, I’m sick about it,” neighbor Malky Ausch told the Daily News. “I can’t work, my mind’s with her the whole day.

“They’re such a wonderful couple, always helping each other”, Ausch, 46, said. “The last people you think something like that can happen.”

Ausch described Meisels and her husband as “stable” parents who would never raise a finger against their kids. The couple have two other children together, neighbors said.

“We never heard her scream at the kids or yell at the kids,” she said. “She wouldn’t hurt a fly. She’s so soft and loving and tender.”

Many neighbors believe Meisels behavior was linked to postpartum depression.

“She just had a baby, I’m not a doctor, but I’ve heard cases,” said another neighbor, who would only identify himself as Berish. “Maybe something kicked off.”

“It’s a terrible thing,” Berish, 72, said. “I see her early almost every morning taking the kids to the school bus. The way she handled the kids, it was beautiful.”
