Susp in Bx. girl slay also sought in 2 armed robs
A man suspected in the stray bullet shooting death of an 11-year-old Bronx girl is also a suspect in two gunpoint robberies, police said Saturday.
Omar Bojang, 18, is wanted for driving a scooter from which his passenger, Matthew Godwin, 15, fired off several rounds, one of which hit Kyhara Tay once in the stomach instead of a 13-year-old intended target, cops said.
Bojang, a member of the Moneywood street gang, was involved in two gunpoint robberies at the Butler Houses in Morrisania in April, police said.
He and three other men jumped a 46-year-old man in the rear of a building on Webster Ave. about 2 p.m. on April 18, cops said.
The man believed he was meeting someone he met on social media to buy something. Instead, he was bum-rushed by the men, one of whom pistol-whipped him and swiped his wallet, said police.
The victim was not seriously injured.
Bojang and his crew pulled the same violent social media scam about 8:50 p.m. on the evening of April 22, cops said.
This time, a 28-year-old victim met with the men inside the same Webster Ave. building when one of the robbers pulled out a gun and pistol-whipped him in the head, said police.
The men stole a Samsung watch off his wrist, his cell phone and a wallet containing $100 in cash.
That victim suffered a cut and bruising to his forehead, but refused medical attention, police said.
At a news conference Friday, top police officials said the department was working to track down Bojang.
“Let me say this to Kyhara’s family: The NYPD is far from finished,” said Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell.
The bullet that took Kyhara’s life about 4:50 p.m. last Monday on Fox St. near Westchester Ave. in Foxhurst was fired from a half block away, cops said.
Kyhara sought help from a nearby nail salon — but in the end her live could not be saved.
Godwin, who police believe to be the shooter, was arrested in a room at the Bronx’s 95 Hotel and was charged with murder, manslaughter and weapons possession in Kyhara’s slaying.
He was held without bail following an arraignment Friday in Bronx Criminal Court.
