SO, THEY WANT ME OUT

Lying George not distracted by constituents’ anger

- BY DAVE GOLDINER NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Rep. George Santos insisted Tuesday he won’t be “distracted” by his own constituents who rallied to demand his resignation — or an ethics probe that was confirmed by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The serial liar (photo) hit back when reporters quizzed him about scores of Long Island constituents who came to Capitol Hill demanding his resignation.

“You’re saying that the freedom of speech of my constituents is a distraction to my work?” Santos said. “Do you think people are a distraction to the work I’m doing here?”

The demonstrators carried placards calling on Santos to step down and delivered a petition to his office calling for his resignation.

“Every day he brings new embarrassment,” Rep. Ritchie Torres told the crowd.

McCarthy confirmed the open secret that Santos is facing an Ethics Committee investigation, along with state and federal criminal probes.

“If ethics finds something, we’ll take action,” said McCarthy, who has so far refused to join calls for Santos to step down.

The news came as Santos prepared to attend President Biden’s State of the Union address on Tuesday night alongside Michael Weinstock, a former volunteer firefighter from Long Island who worked at Ground Zero after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, to the big event on Capitol Hill.

Weinstock, a Democrat who ran in 2020 for the seat now held by Santos, says he is suffering health woes and wants to draw fresh attention to the needs of 9/11 first responders.

“This is an issue that transcends politics and speaks to my heart,” said Weinstock, according to a Santos press release. It’s an odd marriage of convenience for both men.

Weinstock admits that he may struggle to make any point about 9/11 health woes without being “sullied” by accepting the invitation from the disgraced Santos.

Santos, 34, has admitted lying about most of his life story including bogus claims that he worked for big-time investment banks and graduated from Baruch College.

He’s facing federal and state probes for campaign finance discrepancies and allegedly scamming a homeless veteran out of GoFundMe donations for his dying dog.

But one of the most outrageous whoppers was Santos’s brazen claim that his late mother was inside the World Trade Center during the Sept. 11 attacks. Immigration documents say she wasn’t in the U.S. at all in 2001.

Santos, 34, won election in the Democratic-leaning district on the North Shore in one of the biggest surprises of the midterm elections.

He is now under pressure from members of both parties to resign over his serial lies. But McCarthy has stood by Santos, mostly because he needs every vote he can get in the narrowly divided chamber.
