REAL KINGS READ
Roseville Community Charter School hosted its 4th Annual “Kings Who Read” Dr. MLK Literacy Event on Friday, January 27th, to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Dionne Ledford, RCCS Executive Director & Superintendent started this event four years ago to reinforce a true love of reading in her scholars in the month when we celebrate the life and legacy of one of our greatest “kings.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an avid reader and a strong advocate for education. Dr. Ledford hoped that inviting the special men in her scholars’ lives come to read would show them the importance of reading and solidify for them that real “kings” read. This event grew with so many fathers, father figures, and men from the community wanting to participate. Dr. Ledford and the entire RCCS community are truly grateful to see her vision become a reality.
In addition to the many “kings” of the community, RCCS scholars participated in the event. The school’s student council presented all “mystery king readers” with name badges and certificates upon arrival, the cheerleaders greeted every “king reader” with a school cheer, the safety patrol served as escorts to classes, and the peer leaders made sure everyone knew their class assignment. Every mystery “king reader” received a crown before reading a book about Dr. King or a favorite childhood book to a class of young scholars. After the reading, scholars could ask questions and learn more about the men who served as their mystery king readers.
It was an amazing turnout with invited kings such as Mr. Roger Leon, Superintendent of Newark Public Schools, Mr. Rick Thigpen, Senior VP of PSEG, former president of the NJ Democratic National Committee, Mr. Marc Williams, The Positive Community Magazine, Mr. Rufus Jackson, Newark Fire Chief, Councilman Dupre L. Kelly - West Ward Newark, Councilman Leneus Bergson - Third Ward East Orange, Mr. Harry Lee - NJPCSA President, Mr. Cesar Vizcairo, RCCS Board Member, Mr. Khalil Nassiruddin, RCCS Board Member, Mr. Linwood Bagby - Restore Ministries Foundation / CEO, and Mr. Kenya Moncur, RCCS Principal.

LECTURA DE REYES REALES
Roseville Community Charter School organizó su cuarto evento anual de alfabetización Dr. MLK “Kings Who Read” el viernes 27 de enero, para honrar la vida y el legado del Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. La Dra. Dionne Ledford, directora ejecutiva y superintendente de RCCS comenzó este evento hace cuatro años para reforzar un verdadero amor por la lectura en sus alumnos en el mes en que celebramos la vida y el legado de uno de nuestros más grandes “reyes”. El Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. fue un ávido lector y un firme defensor de la educación. La Dra. Ledford esperaba que invitar a leer a los hombres especiales en la vida de sus alumnos les mostraría la importancia de la lectura y solidificaría para ellos que los verdaderos “reyes” leen. Este evento creció con tantos padres, figuras paternas y hombres de la comunidad que querían participar. La Dra. Ledford y toda la comunidad de RCCS están verdaderamente agradecidas de ver que su visión se hizo realidad.
Además de los muchos “reyes” de la comunidad, los becarios de RCCS participaron en el evento. El consejo estudiantil de la escuela les entregó a todos los “reyes lectores misteriosos” insignias con sus nombres y certificados a su llegada, las porristas saludaron a cada “rey lector” con una ovación escolar, la patrulla de seguridad actuó como escolta a las clases y los compañeros líderes se aseguraron de que todos supieran sus tarea de clase Cada “rey lector” misterioso recibió una corona antes de leer un libro sobre el Dr. King o un libro favorito de la infancia a una clase de jóvenes eruditos. Después de la lectura, los eruditos podían hacer preguntas y aprender más sobre los hombres que sirvieron como lectores del rey misterioso.
