Woman busted in shoot slay of Bronx mom
The accused killer who shot a young mother dead during a fight on a Bronx street has been busted, police said Friday.
Latrisha Lowman, 41, was arrested Thursday and charged with murder, manslaughter and gun possession authorities said.
She allegedly killed Lashawn Andrews, 24, on E. 178th St. near Park Ave. Sunday night, then ran from the scene.
Police said the victim was outside her apartment building and was arguing with Lowman and another woman.
It quickly turned physical, at which point Lowman ran to a nearby vehicle, grabbed a pistol, came back to the scene and shot the victim once in the face, cops said.
Andrews was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she died.
The shooter ran off. The other woman also left, as did the owner of the car where Lowman got the gun.
But Assistant Chief Joseph Kenny said the vehicle owner came back a short time later and said the gun was in the trunk. He knows Lowman, Kenny said, but denied owning the gun and was not charged.
Lowman, who lives around the corner, was quickly identified as the suspect. The other woman is not being sought.
“My daughter, she was one of the most beautiful, humblest, beautiful souls,” the victim’s devastated mother, Keshia Andrews, 52, told the Daily News. “I mean, her spirit, to know her, you would have loved her.
“I wish she was here.I would just tell her how much I love her. I appreciate her being my daughter. If I could just have one wish, I would just want her to come back.”
The suspect has four arrests, all between 2007 and 2001, including three for drugs and one for assault. Lashawn Andrews was the mother of boys ages 3 and 4. “She’s very bubbly. Full of life,” her mother said. “She’d give you the shirt off her back. She just loved people. To know Lashawn, she was just full of love. And she loved her kids. She loved her children.”
