2 are killed and 4 wounded in shoot at Philly speakeasy
Two people were killed and four others wounded in a shooting at a Philadelphia home early Sunday morning.
Police said the residence in the city’s Strawberry Mansion neighborhood was operating as an illegal speakeasy.
No suspects were detained as of Sunday afternoon.
Cops were called to the home just before 1 a.m. on Sunday after shots were fired. The shooter or shooters were standing in the street and fired through an open door and window, according to police.
A 53-year-old man was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, and a 42-year-old man was shot in the chest and thigh and pronounced dead at a local hospital, cops said.
The four survivors are a 42-year-old man shot in the hand, a 33-year-old woman shot twice in the arm, a 28-year-old man shot three times in the leg and hip and a 22-year-old woman shot in the leg. All the wounded victims were in stable condition.
Investigators said at least 10 shots were fired.
“At this point we have 10 shell casings on the highway,” Philadelphia police officer Christopher Bradshaw told local NBC affiliate WCAU.
The Sunday morning shooting was the 11th U.S. mass shooting of 2024, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which classifies a mass shooting as any time four or more people are shot. There were 656 mass shootings in 2023. In Philadelphia, fatal shootings declined significantly in 2023 but were still high compared the number in years past, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. More than 400 people were killed in the city last year.
