-

The Mott Hall Charter School is a middle school in the Morrisania neighborhood of the South Bronx. As Mott Hall enters its 12th year, it continues to live by its motto, “RISE to the Challenge,” and through these RISE core values - Responsibility, Integrity, Scholarship, and Excellence - scholars are taught the character skills to overcome obstacles.

Mott Hall believes that an exceptional and respectful education brings out inner confidence and creative thinking. Class-driven solutions combined with the latest technology in the classroom offer every student a challenging and rewarding education. Mott Hall students learn to respect and empower their communities through tailored academics that strengthen their self-worth.

The Mott Hall Charter School teaches for the 21st Century through its unique approach to learning, providing a holistic educational experience grounded in evidence-based research on how students learn best. Mott Hall accomplishes this through a whole-child approach, not merely addressing content but focusing on the key elements of mind, body, character, and social-emotional health. Its distinctive mission prepares scholars to succeed in top high schools, colleges, and careers, becoming inquisitive, open-minded, and compassionate citizens of the world.

Mott Hall’s six core component approach to teaching includes student-centered methods of instruction, effective classroom approaches, the latest research in adolescent development and social-emotional health, integrating literacy into lessons regardless of the content area, using technology to accelerate student learning, and using data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes. Mott Hall has a one hundred percent high school acceptance rate, with a school year of over one hundred and eighty instructional days, an average class size of twenty-five students, and a student-teacher ratio of thirteen to one. Our students learn to respect and empower their communities through tailored academics that strengthen their self-worth.

Mott Hall Charter School offers a rigorous academic program grounded in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program. Scholars are required to take three years of foreign language and coursework in the arts and have the opportunity for Regents level classes in mathematics and science in 8th grade. All classes integrate technology and utilize elements of the AVID College and Career Readiness program to provide scholars with the organizational, time management, and study skills they need to succeed.

Under the guidance of a skilled coaching staff, Mott Hall offers a wide variety of after-school athletic clubs and teams for both boys and girls, including soccer, flag football, basketball, and more. These opportunities not only help our scholars stay healthy, but they also provide college-bound skills.

Through Mott Hall’s RISE core values, scholars are taught the character skills to overcome obstacles. These core values are Responsibility, Integrity, Scholarship, and Excellence. Scholars are introduced to these attributes from the moment they walk through the door and reinforced throughout their time at Mott Hall.
