2nd person mowed down by same truck
A dump truck driver struck and killed a 65-year-old woman in a Brooklyn hit-and-run on Thursday in the same vehicle that killed a beloved Queens crossing guard last year, according to police and photos from the scenes.
The woman in the latest crash was crossing Tilden Ave. at Bedford Ave. in Flatbush around 6:15 a.m., cops said.
As the victim used the crosswalk to get across the avenue, a witness told the Daily News he watched the driver of the dump truck make an illegal right on red.
“It throws her to the ground, and then run her over,” said Samir Nagi, who works at a bodega on the corner.
The driver continued on but stopped about a block away near the intersection of Tilden and Flatbush Aves., photos from the scene show.
“[The driver] had no idea until his [co-workers] told him what happened,” said Nagi, 43. “He was shocked. They were telling him it was him [that ran her over].”
A police spokesman said Wednesday afternoon there were no immediate arrests, and the victim’s name was not immediately released.
The dump truck bore the same license plate as the Manolos Trucking LLC vehicle that ran down NYPD school crossing guard
Krystyna Naprawa on Oct. 20, photos show.
Naprawa, 63, was guiding pedestrians in the crosswalk at Woodhaven Blvd. and Atlantic Ave. in Woodhaven at around 8:05 a.m. when the driver knocked her to the ground and ran her over, police said.
The victim died at the scene. Police arrested 39-yearold driver Hector Yepes and charged him with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care.
It wasn’t immediately clear who was behind the wheel of the dump truck in the Thursday crash as police continued to investigate.
A call to Manolos Trucking LLC was not answered later the same day.
