Jasson nears next rehab step; Yanks will take closer look at Peraza’s shoulder

- BY GARY PHILLIPS

Jasson Domínguez is continuing to progress as he takes his time rehabbing from UCL surgery. The switch-hitter, already swinging off a tee from the right side, will start adding lefty cuts on Monday, according to NJ.com’s Max Goodman. Aaron Boone also said that Domínguez is now throwing from 75 feet.

It’s unclear when Domínguez will move beyond tee work, but Boone said the 21-yearold hasn’t suffered any setbacks since undergoing surgery last September. The Yankees expect The

Martian to return sometime over the summer, though they haven’t been more specific than that.

At the start of camp, Domínguez said that he wants to return “as quick as possible, but I don’t want to rush anything.”

“I’m taking my time, just doing what I have to do,” he added, echoing sentiments shared by the Yankees.

Domínguez, who is on the 60day injured list, doesn’t have to go straight to the majors once healthy. While he showed that he can hit major league pitching over eight stellar games last September, he is not a finished product and still has minor league options. The Yankees, meanwhile, project to have a crowded outfield with Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham.

Giancarlo Stanton is expected to play out there as well.

“I know I can play here, but I also know there’s a lot of work to do,” Domínguez previously said. “I’ve got a lot of things that I gotta learn.”

MORE IMAGING FOR PERAZA

A day after initial imaging, Oswald Peraza needed more on his right shoulder on Friday. The infielder was expected to receive a dye contrast MRI, per The Bergen Record’s Pete Caldera.

Shoulder discomfort kept Peraza out from Feb. 25 until this past Tuesday. He played second on Tuesday and shortstop on Wednesday, but he felt he couldn’t throw like his usual self.

Peraza is competing for a spot on the Yankees’ bench. Another absence, even a short one, could take him out of the running for the Opening Day roster. Then again, he may not have won the job anyway, as he still has an option and could benefit from everyday playing time at Triple-A after failing to hit major league pitching thus far.

STRO-HITTER

Marcus Stroman looked sharp against his former team on Friday, tossing four hitless innings against the Blue Jays. The righty walked one and struck out two while throwing 53 pitches in what ended up a 2-1 win for Toronto.

Stroman, the Yankees’ biggest pitching addition of the offseason, now has a 1.74 ERA this spring.
