Las Vegas authorities responded to a Monday morning shooting in an office building where three people — including the suspect — were killed, cops said.

“The shooter is deceased,” the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department posted online shortly before noon local time. “There is no active threat to public safety.”

Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill said the shooting happened inside a law office.

“The multistory office building with hundreds of people inside were evacuated during this incident,” police wrote on Facebook. “The motive and the relationship between the victims and the shooter are under investigation.”

The Las Vegas Review-Journal identified the victims as trial attorney Dennis Prince and a woman in his office, which specialized in personal injury cases. Prince’s former law partner Robert Eglet described his ex-colleague as one of Nevada’s best courtroom lawyers and someone he knew for 30 years.

“It’s awful,” Eglet said. “It’s a loss to our profession.”

The gunman was also an attorney, according to a Nevada Current reporter. Police said the shooter died from “an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.”

The gunfire erupted during a deposition hosted by Prince Law Group, according to KTNV Las Vegas.

The incident was first reported just after 10 a.m. local time. LVMPD said then it was “investigating a shooting inside a business near Pavilion Center Drive and Charleston,” on social media. They referred to the shooting as a “dynamic event” being addressed by multiple LVMPD emergency vehicles.

The building is located near the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa in Summerlin, which was being used as a staging area and assistance center, according to Clark County Fire Department Chief John Steinbeck.

Traffic was temporarily shut down outside the crime scene and residents were asked to avoid the area due to the heavy police presence.

The deadliest mass shooting ever recorded in the U.S. took place in Las Vegas in October 2017, when a lone gunman fired into a crowded music festival from his Mandalay Bay Resort hotel room, killing 60 people and injuring hundreds for reasons still unclear.
