NCAA: Rutgers hires Teel

Former quarterbac­k Mike Teel and Michael Zuckerman have been hired as graduate assistant football coaches at Rutgers.

Coach Kyle Flood announced the hirings Monday, saying Teel will work with the wide receivers while Zuckerman will assist in coaching the special teams.

Rutgers off icials said they expect the athletics department to be f inancially independen­t by 2020 despite having to boost subsidies by nearly 70 percent last year.

USA Today and the Home News Tribune report Rutgers athletics received nearly $47 million in subsidies from the university in 201213, accounting for more than half of athletics’ $79 million budget.
