‘COCKER-BULL’ STORY
Cops wary of Queens woman’s dognap tale
A woman whose cocker spaniel was found dead in a Queens park is being grilled by cops over “inconsistencies” in her claim that two men mugged her and stole the dog before its demise, lawenforcement sources told The Post.
Lora Panossian, 29, says that she was walking 5yearold Ginger (pictured) in Crocheron Park in Bayside at about 10 p.m. Sunday when two men — who at first seemed “friendly” — suddenly punched her in the stomach and kidnapped the pooch.
Ginger’s remains were found submerged in a pond Monday.
Now, cops are wondering if there was any doggie mugging at all, sources said.
Panossian was found with dogbite marks on her arm, sources said, and there are no witnesses to the alleged abduction.
“She can’t describe her attackers, even though she claimed to us the men spoke to her and petted the dog,” a source said.
Panossian also failed to notify authorities of the incident until she got home, even though she had her cellphone on her, according to sources.
Panossian’s roommate — who was interviewed by an animalcruelty detective on Wednesday — told The Post that the police questioned her about her pal’s behavior.
“[The detective] asked me how Lora reacts to stress,” said Lamont Paung, 28, who responded that her roommate “definitely doesn’t handle stressful situations well.”
Ginger’s body was plucked from the park’s Golden Pond, which is near the alleged abduction site.
A fisherman who made the discovery recalled parks workers saying that Ginger’s head looked as if it “had been hit.”
Paung said authorities waited until Tuesday to notify Panossian that Ginger was found dead.
In Panossian’s defense, Paung added that she’s always been an “animal lover.”
Panossian did not return phone calls and emails seeking comment.
