After all these years, Robinson still on Nets’ wish list

- By TIM BONTEMPS

The Nets need a backups plan. Though they accomplished their top priority by agreeing to deals with Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young, they still need to find reserves to fill in behind them.

One potential option is Thomas Robinson, whom the Nets have had interest in for some time.

Robinson, 24, appeared set to join the Nets in February after he was waived by Portland, only for the 76ers to claim him off waiv- ers instead. But the Nets certainly have ample playing time available behind Lopez and Young, given that their current big men under contract are Cory Jefferson (partially guaranteed contract), Earl Clark (non-guaranteed contract) and Chris McCullough, one of their two first-round picks, but who is out until January with a torn ACL.

Robinson averaged 5.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in 54 combined games with the Trail Blazers and Sixers last season, and has averages of 5.1 points and 4.8 rebounds for his three-year career. He was the No. 5 pick in the 2012 draft, and the Nets were interested in him that spring before losing their pick to Portland.

Mirza Teletovic has garnered significant interest from Europe, according to a source, but his goal remains to stay in the NBA.

Though Teletovic would almost certainly get a bigger contract in pure dollars from an NBA team, the fact that European contract amounts are after taxes could at least allow for some competitive offers.

Still, the likelihood remains Teletovic, who spent three months sidelined because of multiple blood clots in his lungs, will get a good enough offer to be back in the NBA. Whether that is with the Nets, however, remains to be seen.

Brooklyn offered Teletovic a $4.2 million qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent last month, but could have trouble keeping him given their payroll is set to be around $95 million after getting the deals for Lopez and Young done, as expected.

Another Nets free agent, Alan Anderson, reportedly received a call from the Wizards, and is expected to get a good amount of interest after playing well the past two seasons.
