E! pedals ‘ Hollywood Cycle’
SPInnInGhas certainly made its mark on new York, where cycling studios like Soul Cycle, Flywheel and Peloton lure exercisers with their calorie- busting workouts and nightclub- like settings.
But the stars of new E! reality series “Hollywood
Cycle” say the Big Apple has nothing on the spin culture out West.
“In new York people are just trying tomove their body. In LA, it’s serious work. The intensity is cranked up,” says nichelle Hines, an instructor at West Hollywood spin studio Cycle House.
“[ There’s] that level of community too,” says Cycle House instructor nick Houslow. “I hear from people that live in new York and come to LA and take spin at Cycle House say [ that] ‘ Everyone is so friendly. The girl on the bike next door spoke tome.’ In new York it’s like ‘ If you come anywhere nearmy bike I will cut you, and it’s not going to be pretty.’ ”
“Hollywood Cycle,” which premieres Tuesday at 10 p. m., centers on Cycle House instructors Houslow, Hines and her brother Aaron, where the obsessive world of indoor cycling often blurs the line between their personal and professional lives. The six- episode series also follows three trainees competing to become Cycle House’s next rock star instructors at the studio’s new Santa Monica location.
“You’re going to see us off the bike a lot. That sense of community permeates our entire lives,” Hines says, who admits her brother is known to mix work and pleasure when it comes to the studio’s female clientele.
“This is a really, really tough job to get,” she adds. What you’re going to see on the showis a lot of push and pull related to whether or not these [ trainees] are going to make it.”
Houslow, nichelle and Aaron admit they often butt heads with Cycle House owners Adam and Lara Gillman— and each other — and tease that they might not all still be employed by the studio at the center of the show. “We definitely have an up and down relationship,” Houslow says of their partnership. “We’re all tight, the three of us, butwe all fight like brother and sister.”
