City Hall’s Six-Figure Hire: A Waste of Taxpayers’ Cash

-

l The news of the makeshift job for another political crony, costing the taxpayers of New York $150,000, is outrageous (“A Rancid Hire,” Editorial, Aug. 14). This mayor is a firstclass hypocrite. All he does is preach income inequality, and yet he and his cronies live the high life.

Why doesn’t he take the $150,000 and do something for the homeless? Why doesn’t he take his Brooklyn residence and open it up to the homeless rather than collecting a huge rent?

It’s great to be a preacher as long as you talk the talk.

Instead, this failed mayor is pulling a “do as I say, not as I do” on New Yorkers.

He’s so beholden to his many donors to his campaign that he no longer can do what is right for the residents of New York City. He belongs in the Mayoral Hall of Shame. George Coppola

l Mayor de Blasio makes up a phony job paying $150,000, when he can make real jobs for the homeless, like fixing roads and homes or cleaning parks and streets.

How about refurbishing abandoned buildings and making them apartments for the homeless?

At least this will be money well spent and a benefit to the city. Robert Neglia

l New York City’s government is responsible for public safety, trans portation, education, public health and other similar issues. Immigration is a national issue, to be legislated by Congress.

Tying together two current stories, the $150,000 for a fabricated position could pay for 1,000 to 2,000 textbooks.

Yet a de Blasio crony gets a makework job. Outrageous.

l To criticize the nontransparent and ethically questionable hiring of Stephanie Yazgi (the partner of Mayor de Blasio’s close aide, Emma Wolfe) as “campaign director” at the mayor’s Office of Immigration Affairs with a salary of $150,000 is one thing.

But it’s simplistic to suggest it’s nothing more than a patronage job intended to boost de Blasio’s national political aspirations. James Hyland
