Snowden in Mosc-scold
CIA leaker Edward Snowden has turned on his reluctant country of residence, blasting the Russian government for its crackdown on human rights and Internet freedom, it was reported Saturday.
Snowden, who ran off to Russia two years ago after US officials got a warrant for his arrest, said Moscow’s Internet censorship policies are “fundamentally wrong,’’ and added he’s sick of living in exile, Agence FrancePresse reported.
He spoke as he accepted a Norwegian freedom of speech award by videophone from Russia.
Snowden, whose supporters describe him as a “whistle blower” for disclosing secret information about American surveillance programs, is now blowing the whistle on his hosts.
Snowden insisted he accepted Russia’s asylum offer only because his US passport was pulled while he was traveling through the country.
He said he’d applied for asylum to 21 countries, but Russia was the only one that wanted him.
He said he’s living a “normal’’ life in Russia but would be happier back in the US.
