THE POST’S TOP TEN
1. Ohio State (1-0) There was likely more suspense to who would be Ohio State’s starting quarterback — Cardale Jones got the nod over J.T. Barrett — than there will be in any regular-season game the Buckeyes will play this year.
2. TCU (1-0) We’ll give TCU a pass on its uninspiring win over Minnesota. At least the Horned Frogs had the nerve to play a quality opponent in Week 1 — unlike so many other contenders.
3. Alabama (1-0) There’s an old saying, if you’re relying on multiple quarterbacks, you don’t have any. Neither Jake Coker nor Cooper Bateman looked capable against rebuilding Wisconsin.
4. Baylor (1-0) Bryce who? The Jets rookie quarterback was hardly missed, as junior Seth Russell threw for 376 yards and five touchdowns in a 56-21 smackdown of SMU.
5. Auburn (1-0) The Tigers woeful run defense didn’t look fixed against Louisville, allowing 238 yards on the ground in a near upset. New defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has a lot of work left to do.
6. USC (1-0) The Trojans backed up the preseason hype in Week 1 by thrashing Arkansas State, but we’ll wait a few weeks before proclaiming USC as back.
7. Michigan State (1-0) The Spartans can forget about challenging Ohio State for the Big Ten East crown if their defensive performance against Western Michigan was a snapshot into the season to come.
8. Oregon (1-0) Another year, another suspect Oregon defense. Allowing 42 points and 549 total yards to FCS foe Eastern Washington doesn’t inspire confidence.
9. Florida State (1-0) Everett Golson’s Seminoles debut went exactly as planned: 302 yards through the air, four touchdowns and no turnovers. Of course, Texas State hardly qualifies as a challenge.
10. Ole Miss (1-0) What exactly was the benefit of the Rebels scheduling Tennessee-Martin? Hard to see how the 76-3 drubbing helped either side at all.
