Gimme ‘Liberty’ and Clive’s party
It sounds like a dream wedding. Apple Music boss and famed music producer Jimmy Iovine is set to marry former model Liberty Ross on Valentine’s Day in a starstudded celebration at David Geffen’s lavish LA home.
But there’s a problem that has the music industry buzzing.
The wedding coincides with the must beseenat pre-Grammy party hosted by Clive Davis — the legendary Sony music producer who helped make Aretha Franklin, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys and scores of others stars.
The conflict is driving folks in the music business crazy. Which event do you go to?
Universal Music’s Lucian Grainge and Sony Music’s Doug Morris and other heavyweights are trying to figure out a solution, one source said.
Some are hoping to fit both in one night — attending the 6:30 p.m. wedding but then skedaddling in time to hit the end of the 7 p.m. Davis party across town at the Beverly Hilton.
Thank God the Davis party can last until 11:30 p.m., some are thinking.
Each year, Clive chooses to honor a major figure in the industry. This year, the nod goes to Irving Azoff, the first time a music manager rather than a label boss has been selected.
Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook and Senior Vice President of Internet Software Eddy Cue have been invited to the big day, sources said. It’s not known which event — if either — the two will attend.
The wedding guest list, a few hundred invitees long, includes Gwen Stefani and Dr. Dre.
Ross, 37, signed a prenup, sources said. Iovine, 62, is worth some $1 billion after Beats Music, which he coowned with Dr. Dre, was sold to Apple for $3 billion.
Iovine, the cofounder of Interscope Records, met Ross two years ago and they got engaged in September.
Ross divorced director Rupert Sanders after his liaison with actress Kristen Stewart was exposed.
