McCullough is nearing his debut for B’klyn

- By FRED KERBER

A debut date is getting closer for Nets rookie Chris McCullough, who is recovering from a torn ACL.

The 6foot11 forward out of Syracuse, who tore his ACL on Jan. 11, 2015, is expected to be activated for Friday’s and Saturday’s games, then possibly play Monday against Denver. It will be a nice birthday present for McCullough, who turns 21 Friday, and is seen as part of the Nets’ future with fellow rookie Rondae HollisJefferson, who has been out since early December with a fractured ankle.

“Ronde is probably a little ways away. But McCullough has been practicing,” interim coach Tony Brown said Tuesday. “Once he gets some play action under his belt, learning our plays and stuff, he’ll get a chance to play.

“He’ll be active, but we’ll wait and see. We don’t want to throw him in the deep end of the water right away, so we’ll give him a chance to learn some of our stuff and feel comfortable with it before we throw him into the fire.”

The Nets have sought and received permission from the Rockets to speak with their executive vice president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas, 37, about the Brooklyn general manager job, ESPN reported Tuesday. Last week, the Nets got the go ahead from the Nuggets to talk with assistant GM Arturas Karnisovas, 44, the former Seton Hall player.

Both are under contract, so the Nets needed permission for any contact with them to fill the spot created when Billy King was reassigned. Both Bryan Colangelo and Danny Ferry have been identified as candidates. The Nets also are seeking a coach to replace Lionel Hollins and every indication is they want separate individuals, and not one man for both jobs.

Members of the Nets hierarchy “feel pretty strongly about [two hires] and everyone recognizes that each one will have a lot of work on his plate and that there are certain checks and balances that make two heads better than one,” said a person familiar with the process.
