A big veep of praise

No quit in DT: Pence

- By BOB FREDERICKS

Mike Pence accepted the GOP vice-presidential nomination Wednesday night by praising Donald Trump as “someone who just doesn’t quit,” while lambasting Hillary Clinton as “secretary of the status quo.”

The Indiana governor said Democrats have not been able to figure out the billionaire developer’s popularity and “the media has the same problem.”

“They all keep telling each other the usual methods will work against him. They keep thinking they’ve done him in,” Pence said to applause at the Republican convention in Cleveland.

“The man just doesn’t quit. He’s tough. He perseveres.”

Pence, a staunch conservative and champion of family values, described Trump as a loving family man who is liked and respected by the people who work for him.

“And if you still doubt what I’m saying, remember as we say back home — you can’t fake good kids,” the veep nominee said. “How about his amazing children, aren’t they something?”

Like virtually every other speaker during the first three days of the convention, Pence also bashed Clinton, arguing that electing her would be like extending President Obama’s term.

“In the end, this election comes down to just two names on the ballot, so let’s resolve here and now that Hillary Clinton will never become president of the United States of America,” Pence declared as the crowd erupted in cheers.

Pence spent 10¹/2 hours locked in his hotel room Tuesday preparing for the most important speech in his life. His focus showed in a well-delivered and enthusiastically received address that was an antidote to Ted Cruz’s refusal to endorse Trump. Pence himself had backed Cruz over Trump in the Indiana primary.

Pence said the GOP ticket has a “rendezvous with destiny.”

But he cautioned, “None of us should think for one second that this should be easy . . . You know this won’t be America’s first glimpse of the Clinton machine in action, as Bernie Sanders can tell you.”
