MOTIVATE TO BE THE BEST

- — Christian Gollayan

IMPROVING your life — whether it’s nabbing a promotion at work or taking up a new sport — can be challenging if you don’t have the self-motivation to make it happen.

Life coach Andro Donovan, author of “Motivate Yourself: Get the Life You Want, Find Purpose and Achieve Fulfilment” (Wiley, out now), offers three tips to fuel your drive.

Give yourself positive affirmations

Some of the biggest barriers keeping us from reaching our full potential are those negative, fearful thoughts that tell us we can’t do it. “I call these thoughts ‘rats’ because they gnaw at our potential,” Donovan tells The Post.

To keep negativity at bay, Donovan recommends repeating a positive mantra — such as, “I’m an amazing worker” — at least 14 times a day. “This creates a neurological pathway to operate from a different reality,” she says.

Find qualities you admire

The easiest way to find motivation is to first determine your values and what excites you.

“I tell my clients to identify famous people who inspire them and to list the qualities they admire,” Donovan says. “And [my clients] light up and realize that they, too, hold these values.”

Plan short-term goals

Having trouble just getting yourself out of bed? Take baby steps. “When I feel groggy and can’t get up, I repeat to myself ‘coffee, shower, coffee, shower,’ and I find myself physically moving and energizing myself,” Donovan continues. Short-term goals will transform your thoughts and help you overcome barriers if you’re stuck in a rut.
