Ivanka pitches Don as great catch for American women

CLEVELAND — Ivanka Trump, the crown jewel of her dad’s campaign, made an impassioned case Thursday night for women to defy the polls and support him over Hillary Clinton.

“As president, my father will change the labor laws that were put in place during a time in which women were not a significant part of the workforce, and will focus on making quality child care affordable and accessible for all,” Ivanka told the GOP convention and a national TV audience.

An executive in her family’s real-estate business, the poised 34year-old said her father’s business practices prove his administration would be a boon for women.

“At our family’s company, there are more female than male executives. Women are paid equally for the work that we do and, when a woman becomes a mother, she is supported, not shut out,” she said.

That line won the loudest applause of her speech.

“Politicians talk about wage equality, but my father has made it a practice at his company throughout his entire career. He will fight for equal pay for equal work, and I will fight for this, too, right alongside of him,” she added.

Ivanka’s role in the campaign is vital. Clinton is leading Trump by 24 points among women, according to a recent Pew Research Center Poll — an historically wide gender gap.

The mother of three spoke passionately and lovingly of her father, calling him “the single most qualified person to serve as the chief executive of an $ 18 trillion economy.”

In an appeal to young independent voters, another voting bloc leaning toward Clinton, Ivanka said party loyalty doesn’t always come first.

“Like many of my fellow millennials, I do not consider myself categorically Republican or Democrat. More than party affiliation, I vote based on what I believe is right for my family and my country. Sometimes, it’s a tough choice. That is not the case this time,” she said.

Toward the end of her 15-minute address, she predicted: “Come January 2017, all things will be possible again.”
