Ted Cruz’s Last Stand: A Tantrum Over Trump

- Stuart Krane Highland Beach, Fla.

People say politicians don’t keep their promises (“Cruz Missile,” John Podhoretz, PostOpinion, July 21).

Ted Cruz and others have shown that to be a proven fact.

The Republican presidential candidates took a pledge and signed it in front of millions of people promising to endorse and support the Republican Party’s nominee.

Several haven’t kept their word. Kim Cody Whitestone

On the block I grew up on, guys like Cruz would be labeled sore losers, and no one would want to play with them anymore.

Take your ball and go home, Ted. It’s game over for you. Bob Belli North Caldwell, NJ

Remember that Republican primary debate when everyone on stage was asked whether they would sign a pledge to endorse the eventual winner?

The drama at the time was whether The Donald would raise his hand. With trepidation, he did, while the other candidates shot their hands up to manifest how deeply committed they are to the Republican brand.

Well, here we are. Many of those Republican loyalists have emerged as what they are: just politicians.

Growing up, I was taught by my father that your word is your bond.

In my business dealings, my handshake was as good as a signed contract, and that is how I have lived my life.

All of the GOP candidates signed a pledge that they would support the eventual GOP nominee. That pledge was a bond, and Cruz and Gov. John Kasich broke that bond.

How can anyone respect or trust a person who breaks his bond?

Going forward, how can anyone believe a thing either Cruz or Kasich says?

Trump was right when he called Cruz “Lyin’ Ted.” Fred Spellman Port Washington

During Cruz’s speech, all I heard was a bitter way of saying “I hate him!”

Same when I hear Hillary Clinton’s attempts at sarcasm or cheerleading for groups she doesn’t give a fig about. I don’t get that with Trump. Steven Wolosker Manhattan How much was Cruz paid to give that speech? How sad that he lived up to his pathetic shortcomings. Marie Giovanniello Staten Island

Cruz is a modern day Benedict Arnold — a traitor to his party.

Politics is a dirty game, and Cruz is as low as it gets.

The Texas battle cry was “Remember the Alamo”; it now should be: “Forget Ted Cruz.” John Buonagura Stewart Manor

It was refreshing to observe the reaction of two grown-ups Wednesday following Cruz’s highly principled, self-destructive manifesto.

Newt Gingrich immediately translated the highly nuanced legalese of the speech into concise, plain English that most of us folks could understand.

Shortly thereafter, Trump, on Twitter, intoned “no big deal.”

Could it be that men who cut to the chase and save their passion for the important stuff are actually going to lead this country again?

We can only hope. Paul Babik Westfield, NJ

After this completely childish and selfish maneuver — as far as I’m concerned — Cruz has destroyed his political career.

This is a time for unity with a common goal: the defeat of Hillary Clinton. What a fool. Alan Brooks Brooklyn
