NJ Dems on money train
New Jersey’s nearly bankrupt Transportation Trust Fund will be funded for billions of dollars in highway and rail improvements over the next decade under a proposal announced Friday by the state’s Democratic legislative leaders.
The plan, if signed by Republican Gov. Chris Christie, would raise the gas tax by 23 cents per gallon. It does not include a provision, favored by Christie, to drop the sales tax to 6 percent from 7 percent. It also makes no increase in the jetfuel tax, which airlines had said would drive up passenger costs.
