YANKEES: In his first start after the All-Star break, Nova had one of his best outings of the season, allowing just one run on four hits in a 2-1 win over the Orioles. He struck out four and walked three in six innings of work. Nova has won his past two starts, his third set of backto-back wins this season, but he has yet to string together three victories in a row.

GIANTS: After going 7-3 with a 2.84 ERA over the first two months of the season, Samardzija has been roughed up in eight starts in June and July, including three in which he allowed six earned runs. Last time out, he gave up five runs on five hits with four walks while taking a no-decision in a 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Padres.
