Democrats’ Anti-Israel Obsession

-

elegates to this year’s Democratic convention haven’t booed the mention of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, as they did in 2012 — not yet anyway.

But there’s no mistaking the hostility to Israel both inside and outside the Wells Fargo Center in Philadephia.

On Monday night, Bernie Sanders delegates were seen waving Palestinian flags in full view of the TV cameras. In fact, there were more Palestinian flags on the convention floor than American flags onstage.

On Tuesday, Sanders fans and other protesters burned Israeli flags outside the convention center, chanting, “Long live the intifada.”

Of course, Sanders himself appointed three anti-Israel activists to the Democratic platform committee in hopes of steering the language of the party’s official position.

Then there’s Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.), recently exposed as having publicly charac- terized Israeli settlers as “termites.”

Happily, the Sanders folks lost their platform battle, but Hillary Clinton’s camp made sure the issue didn’t reach the floor for a repeat of the 2012 booing incident.

Thing is, Israel seems to be the foreign-policy issue the Democrats care about.

ISIS, Iraq, Syria, Iran, NATO, Turkey — nary a mention on the first two nights, amid all the paeans to Black Lives Matter and a higher minimum wage.

As for Russia, that’s only become an issue for Democrats to batter against Donald Trump (and distract from those Democratic National Committee e-mails).

All of this is predictable, given the Democrats’ sorry foreign-policy record over the past eight years — including four with Clinton as secretary of state.

When you have nothing to say, goes the rule, best keep silent.
