1 Drake feat. Wizkid and Kyla — “One Dance”

-

The Canadian has a rep for navelgazing, but on the chart-busting, dance hall-inflected“One Dance” Drake brings the season to life.“It embodies the vibe of the summer,” says Z100 DJ Maxwell.“Whether you’re in a nightclub or cruising to the beach, it fits everything. Listening to it, you can almost imagine yourself with your toes in the sand.”

The track (from his 1.3 million-selling“Views” album) is the crowning achievement in Drake’s career to date. It spent the past two months at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and helped him sell out four Madison Square Garden shows (co-headlined with his close buddy Future) — the first of which is Thursday. Chances are that Drake’s “One Dance” is going to last well past Labor Day.

Back in simpler times, Harris and Taylor Swift were still an item and the Scottish DJ’s April single (complete with Rihanna-sung lines about an adored star eyeing a special someone in the crowd) was met with gossip that it might actually address their romance. But their June breakup got messy once Swift revealed she had written part of the song under the pseudonym“Nils Sjöberg,” causing an angry rebuttal by Harris, who accused her of wanting to “tear” him down.

That soap opera increased chatter about the song, but Maxwell says it obscures the fact that it’s the summer’s killer workout jam.“I know people who use this song [for] working out. Apparently, when they’re doing SoulCycle, it gives them the extra boost when they need it.”
