FDNYers testy over botched exam
The city’s personnel agency bungled a civil-service exam for promotion to fire lieutenant last year, then botched its corrective action.
So now, it’s going to score the test a third time, The Post has learned.
The Department of Citywide Administrative Services posted a list of 1,166 firefighters who passed the test, a big step up the FDNY career ladder.
But it wasn’t long before complaints came in claiming that one of the test’s multiple-choice questions had two correct answers.
So the exam was rescored — only to be messed up again with new results that made no sense.
“This is total incompetence on the part of DCAS to have to score this three times,” fumed one firefighter.
The Bravest say they bombarded the testing agency with calls to seek a second correction.
But DCAS budged only after The Post inquired about the mess.
The agency said a probe deter- mined the mistakes were caused by human error, but declined too say whether anyone would be dis-ciplined.
Both the FDNY and DCAS said the rescoring will not affect thehe promotion timetable.
An FDNY rep said top scorer would “likely” be notified of promotions by mid-September, as planned.
A DCAS rep said, “This was an unusual occurrence and we apologize for any inconvenience.” Rich Calder
