Querrey unable to build off big upset

- By BRETT CYRGALIS

It was a bright and warm Tuesday afternoon when the already dim hope of the American men at the U.S. Open got even dimmer.

In Louie Armstrong Stadium, former hopeful Sam Querrey was unable to hold off the unseeded Janko Tipsarevic, dropping the match 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (7-0), 6-3, 6-3. Querrey was the lowest of the four seeded American men, at No. 29, yet he was coming off an emotional victory over Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon in July.
