Beatty hungers for spot on line

There is not much time for Will Beatty to get re-acclimated on the Giants’ offensive line. The regular season begins in 11 days and he has not played in a long, long time — not since December 2014.

Beatty missed the entire 2015 season and is coming back from multiple upper-body surgeries.

“It was tough having to sit last season and having to watch,’’ Beatty told giants.com. “I had that hunger after I was cleared by the doctors. I was able to rehab and really start getting back on track.

“This is only the beginning. I still have to put the pads on and show everybody what I already know. It only works if you go out there and you show them. All my talking is going to be done on the field.”

Beatty, returning to the team that made him a 2009 secondround draft pick out of UConn, signed Wednesday the one-year, all-guaranteed $1 . 1 million contract that also includes $750,000 in incentives. A source said Beatty returns primarily to work at right tackle, where the Giants are looking for competition and a possible upgrade for Marshall Newhouse.

“The goal is to make it on the field ,” Beat ty said .“You find a home on the field, you want to keep that home. The goal is that I prefer to be on the field and not on the bench. Just being here, having the chance, the opportunity, that’s all I can ask for.

“I’ll do my best to show that there’s a spot for me, not only on the team but out there on the field. When we’re out there under the lights, game day I can contribute to this team in a great way.”

Beatty, 31, said he will play anywhere the Giants need him. His strength is his footwork, long arms and athletic ability. He is not a mauler by any means.

“I just feel like I’m coming home,’’ Beatty said. “Then again, walking through the doors, there’s a lot of changes. A lot of things aren’t the same. It’s that same house that just got remodeled feel. It feels good, but you have to figure out where everything is now.’’
