CEO out after 17 months

- By LISA FICKENSCHER MARCHIONNI Short stay at Lands’ End.

Lands’ End has lost its second chief executive in two years.

Federica Marchionni, a luxury veteran who hailed from Ferrari and Dolce & Gabbana and who tried to draw in younger customers with more stylish, upscale duds, said on Monday that she is exiting the company.

Customers were not impressed by her efforts. Revenue fell 7.6 percent in the six months ended July 31 and the company swung to a $7.7 million loss from a profit of $9.2 million the previous year.

Chief Merchandising Officer Joseph Boitano and Chief Operating Officer James Gooch will serve as interim co-CEOs, the company said.

Company shares sank 14.1 percent on Monday, to $15.46.

Sears spun off Lands’ End two years ago and continues to be its largest brick-and-mortar distributor — but the larger retailer’s woes cannot be blamed for those of its former sibling.

“Sears figures into this less than people think,” said CL King & Associates’ Steve Marotta.
