Rutgers’ upset bid booted by late Minnesota FG

Emmitt Carpenter’s 28-yard field goal with 10 seconds left helped Minnesota survive for a 34-32 victory against Rutgers on Saturday in Minneapoli­s.

Rodney Smith had a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and ran for 111 yards and a TD for the Golden Gophers (5-2, 2-2 Big Ten).

Giovanni Rescigno threw for 220 yards with three touchdowns and two intercepti­ons in his first start for the Scarlet Knights (2-6, 0-5), who had scored 14 points in four conference games prior to Saturday.

David Bongaura, who earlier missed a PAT, made a 39-yard field goal, his third of the game, with 4 minutes left, but Minnesota went 59 yards in 13 plays to set up Carpenter’s game-winning kick.

Syracuse 28, Boston College 20

In Boston, Eric Dungey threw for 434 yards and three touchdowns, Ervin Phillips had a pair of scores and Syracuse (4-4, 2-2) beat Boston College, sending the Eagles (3-4, 0-4) to their 12th straight ACC loss.

North Texas 35, Army 18

In West Point, Jeffrey Wilson rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns and North Texas (4-3) beat Army (4-3). Ahmad Bradshaw had a touchdown run for the Black Knights, but was in- tercepted four times and lost a fumble as North Texas forced seven turnovers.

Fordham 17, Georgetown 14

In The Bronx, Chase Edmonds had 179 yards on 37 carries, and Makay Redd’s 24-yard field goal with three minutes to play lifted Fordham (5-2, 2-0 Patriot League) past Georgetown (3-4, 0-2).

Caleb Ham intercepte­d the Hoyas’ Brock Johnson and returned the ball 22 yards to Georgetown’s 28-yard line to set up Redd’s field goal. The Rams took a quick 14-0 lead when Luke Medlock threw touchdown passes of 3 and 37 yards to Robbie Cantelli.

Columbia 9, Dartmouth 7

In Manhattan, Oren Milstein kicked three field goals and Columbia (2-4, 1-2 Ivy League) beat Dartmouth (3-3, 0-3) to snap a sevengame losing streak to the Big Green, dating to 2008. Milstein, a freshman; earlier this season set a school record for field goals in a game with five.

Marist 31, Davidson 10

In Poughkeeps­ie, Juston Christian caught six passes for 136 yards and a touchdown — his third straight 100-yard receiving game — and Marist (4-3, 4-0 Pioneer League) defeated Davidson (2-6, 0-5). The Red Foxes, on a four-game win streak, are 4-0 in the conference for the first time.

Stony Brook 28, Delaware 3

In Newark, Del., Stacey Bedell ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns and Stony Brook (5-2, 4-0 CAA) outscored Delaware 21-0 in the second half (2-5, 0-4). The Seawolves ran for 210 yards and three scores as a team and forced five Delaware turnovers.

Bryant 27, Wagner 17

In Smithfield, R.I., Dalton Easton threw for one touchdown to set a school record with 57 in his career and Bryant beat (3-4, 2-1 NEC) Wagner (4-3, 2-1). Alex Thomson threw for 230 yards and a touchdown for Wagner.
