Dellin rooting for ex-mates

Dellin Betances spent a chunk of the past season as part of one of the most feared bullpens in baseball, but is spending the World Series watching his former teammates, Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman.

“I’ve got to keep close tabs on Miller and Chapman and see who wins the throne,” Betances said of the matchup between the Indians and the Cubs. “No sides. I’ll root for both of them.”

The Yankees would have liked the trio of fireballers to pitch for them in October, but Chapman and Miller were dealt at the trade deadline. Betances was shaky as the closer at the end of the season.

“It’s exciting for them,” said Betances, who was at Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation event Tuesday at Cipriani. “Things didn’t work out for us.”

He again said he would be happy to see Chapman return to The Bronx as a free agent next season.

“Anything that makes us better,” Betances said. “We want to be playing now.”

Betances also gave high marks to another former teammate, Alex Rodriguez, for his broadcasting work for FOX.

“I think he’s wonderful,” Betances said. “He has a high IQ for baseball.”

Jeter said he hasn’t been tuning in to watch Rodriguez.

“I see highlights, but haven’t really watched whole games,” Jeter said. “I’ve been busy, man.”

If the Yankees want to avoid early ends to their seasons, the younger players they called up this year — and prospects they traded for — will have to fulfill their potential.

“We had a long run there when we had the same group,” Jeter said. “The young guys have made a smooth transition. I know there’s some big expectations.”

CC Sabathia, who had surgery to remove a Baker’s cyst on his right knee this month, arrived on crutches, but did not take questions.
