Trump is gaining in new poll
Slashes deficit in half
Donald Trump is gaining ground on Hillary Clinton, according to a new poll.
A Fox News national poll released Wednesday showed Clinton at 44 percent and Trump right behind with 41 percent in a four-way race.
A week earlier, the same poll gave Clinton a much larger lead — 45 to 39 percent.
“To be competitive, Trump needs to consolidate support among Republicans and carry independents,” said Republican pollster Daron Shaw. “That’s where he’s made inroads in the last week, mostly by focusing his attention on the economy and ObamaCare.”
Shaw conducted the Fox News poll with Democratic counterpart Chris Anderson.
Trump’s strength was the economy.
The poll found he was more trusted than Clinton to handle economic matters by four percentage points — the only issue where he beat his rival. Clinton was ahead on foreign policy, immigration and terrorism.
“The bottom hasn’t fallen out for Trump and Clinton hasn’t pulled away, but the race isn’t as close as the 3-point lead suggests,” said Anderson.
“Trump needs a solid majority of undecided voters and wavering supporters of third-party candidates, and that’s extremely unlikely since most of them think he lacks the judgment, temperament and qualifications to be president.”
Another national poll also released Wednesday came up with different results, showing Clinton way ahead.
According to the Associated PressGfK survey, Clinton grabbed 51 percent, while Trump was at 37 percent, also in a four-way contest.
There was, however, another sliver of good news for Trump — this time in Florida.
According to a Bloomberg poll of the Sunshine State, he is beating Clinton 45 percent to 43 percent with third-party candidates included.
Trump remained confident on Wednesday. “We are gonna win,” the mogul said.
“I don’t know if I’m a great messenger, but the message is absolutely the right message.”
