Drug ring is knocked out
A massive drug ring that smuggled more than $1.5 million of narcotics — including cocaine hidden in boxing gear — was busted Wednesday.
Fourteen people were indicted in the scheme, which moved more than 20 kilos of cocaine and heroin through large-scale trafficking operations in New York, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Florida and Puerto Rico.
The cocaine was sent through the mail stuffed in boxing equipment and religious statues and addressed to “catchers” in Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx.
In some recorded conversations, the defendants — who are being prosecuted in Bronx Supreme Court — can be heard discussing the details of the shipments.
