Mariah’s fiancé calls it off
Mariah Carey has been dumped by her billionaire fiancé, James Packer — who was sick of putting up with her “extravagant spending” and newfound love for reality TV, according to a report.
The Australian casino mogul officially called it quits this week after being engaged to the singer for less than a year, Woman’s Day said.
“It’s all over,” a family friend told the magazine.
“James had huge reservations about Mariah’s new reality-TV show and the fact that she was willing to expose their lives to the world,” the pal said, adding that her spending sprees had also played a major role in the split.
“James is very generous, but Mariah takes it to the next level,” said another source.
Packer was so determined to leave Carey — who is set to star in “Mariah’s World” on the E! News channel — that he reportedly even let her keep the $10 million diamond engagement ring he gave her when he proposed in January. The two had been together since June 2015.
Things apparently took a turn for the worse in recent months following a spat over a birthday party that Carey didn’t attend.
“When she refused to come to Australia for [Packer’s sister’s] birthday party, it created a lot of tension in the family,” a friend said.
“His mom hated to even hear her name mentioned, and James’ tight circle of friends never really thought they would marry.”
Throughout their en- gagement, Carey, 46, and Packer, 49, remained relatively quiet about their wedding plans — saying they were expecting to have a low-key ceremony.
There have been rumors for weeks that their relationship was on the ropes, with several people pointing to her recent cancellation of her South American tour as proof.
“To all of my lambs in South America, I am devastated that a portion of this tour had to be canceled. Thank you for all of the excitement and love — I hope to see you soon, my darlings,” Carey said in a statement to E! News.
The pop star is said to be spending time with exhusband, Nick Cannon since the break-up — while Packer has turned to his first wife, fashion designer Jodhi Meares, for support.
