Big names among Jets sitting out practice

The Jets’ injury list Wednesday had nearly as many names as the Manhattan phone book.

In all, 12 different Jets did not practice, with 11 of those due to injury. Another three players were limited.

“It’s alarming to see so many [not practicing],” Jets coach Todd Bowles said, “but hopefully by [Thursday] and Friday we’ll get a couple of these guys back.”

The list featured some big names: WR Brandon Marshall (foot), DE Muhammad Wilkerson (ankle), LB Darron Lee (ankle), C Nick Mangold (ankle), LT Ryan Clady (shoulder), CB Buster Skrine (knee), RB Bilal Powell (toe), TE Kellen Davis (hip), TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (ankle), RT Brent Qvale (neck), LB Bruce Carter (quad) all did not practice. RB Matt Forte (knee), CB Darrelle Revis (ankle) and S Antonio Allen (Achilles) were all limited in practice.

Bowles did not reveal how concerned he is about any of the injuries, saying he will see how the week progresses. Marshall said his foot was sore and he has been dealing with it since the Bills game in Week 2 when he was tackled awkwardly. Powell has turf toe that he suffered in Sunday’s game.

Mangold sprained his right ankle on Sunday. He walked very slowly through the locker room Wednesday with the ankle heavily taped.

➤ It appears Josh McCown will be back at quarterback for the Browns this week. McCown, who has been sidelined the past five weeks with a collarbone injury, practiced fully Wednesday.

Cody Kessler, suffered a concussion in Sunday’s game with the Bengals. He was replaced by Kevin Hogan. ➤ Bowles said it is possible RT Breno Giacomini (back) and WR Devin Smith (knee) could be activated off the physically unable to perform list in time for Sunday’s game. … The team officially placed QB Geno Smith on injured reserve Wednesday, meaning his season is over. … The Jets signed LB Taiwan

Jones, who spent time with the Jets in 2015 and was in training camp with them this year before being cut. They signed C Kyle Friend and LB

Reshard Cliett to the practice squad and cut WR Myles White.
