QB Siemian ruled out for Broncos at Jags

-

The Broncos ruled out Trevor Siemian for Sunday’s game at Jacksonville, meaning rookie Paxton Lynch will make his second career start.

Siemian hoped to return to practice Friday, but head athletic trainer Steve Antonopulos put him right back in his walking boot and informed coach Gary Kubiak his starter was a no-go against the Jaguars (2-9).

The Broncos (7-4) are scrambling for a playoff spot after their loss to the Chiefs in which Siemian threw for a career-best 368 yards with three TDs and no interceptions but was sacked six times. He was injured on the last sack, when Tamba Hali pow- ered past Russell Okung to drop the second-year QB.

“I think it’s still a day-today process,” Kubiak said. “When we tried to get him going a little bit today we realized it was time to go ahead and make a decision [to start Lynch].”

CARDINALS: Tyrann Mathieu did not practice Friday and coach Bruce Arians said it is doubtful the versatile defensive back will play Sunday against the Redskins. The problem is the same shoulder injury that kept him out of games against the 49ers and Vikings.

REDSKINS: Tight end Jordan Reed will miss Sunday’s game at Arizona with a sprained left shoul- der. It will be the third game missed this season by Reed.

COWBOYS: Linebacker Rolando McClain was suspended indefinitely Friday for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, his third suspension since the end of the 2014 season.

PANTHERS: All-Pro linebacker Luke Kuechly and safety Kurt Coleman have been ruled out at Seattle (7-3-1 ) with concussions. Defensive end Mario Addison, the team’s leader with 6.5 sacks, will miss his second straight game with a foot injury.

RAIDERS: Oakland plans to place cornerback DJ Hayden on IR because of a hamstring injury, potentially ending the former first-round pick’s stay with the Raiders.
