Put on your thinking Kap

UNBEARABLE:

- By DREW LOFTIS dloftis@nypost.com

IF you are aware you have a blind spot, you know to check it before making a lane change. It is when you don’t anticipate a blind spot, thus don’t go that extra step, when bad things happen.

So we’re here to warn you: If you are itching to drop Colin Kaepernick after Sunday’s train wreck against the Bears, f irst check your blind spot. First, some levity. It’s not like we believe Kaepernick is some kind of fantasy godsend or should be considered a must-start in any matchup. That’s not who he is.

He isn’t someone you consider playing in front of Andrew Luck or Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady or Drew Brees. Kaepernick is someone who, in the right spot, you consider starting over a slumping Cam Newton (whose fantasy production has nosedived this season), over Andy Dalton (when he is without A.J. Green), over Alex Smith (because Alex Smith).

So before we go further, take into account many have drastically overvalued Kaepernick. And now, after throwing for just 4 yards, after accounting for a meager two fantasy points, after getting benched, the whiplash reaction by some fantasy owners will be to drop Kaepernick. Assuming those owners added him because they needed QB help, then dropping him would be a mistake.

The Madman imagines an owner rash enough to drop Kaepernick after his terrible Chicago showing (1-for-5 for 4 yards, 20 yards rushing) probably are the same reactionary types who will be in a rush to grab Joe Flacco after his huge day against the Dolphins — 381 yards, four touchdowns. If we’re talking about you, so blinded by this week’s disaster that you can’t see anything that happened before or that is likely later, it pays to remember: Flacco’s big day versus the Dolphins netted him 29 fantasy points. The week before, against the same Dolphins, Kaepernick posted 32. Just saying.

And if you‘re worried about Kaepernick’s floor being too low, well, Flacco had a miserable Week 7, throwing for 248 yards, zero TDs and two interceptions — against the Jets — for a five-point fantasy day. So he’s not immune either.

Need a tiebreaker, check out their upcoming schedules. Flacco has the Patriots (average), but it’s on the road. Then it’s the Eagles (one of the 10 stingiest to fantasy QBs), and the Steelers (sixth stingiest). Kaepernick, on the other hand, gets the Jets (whose secondary woes have been well publicized), the Falcons (league worst versus fantasy QBs) and then a decent Rams team.

Even if you’re furious after Kaepernick’s Sunday embarrassment, don’t change lanes just yet. Check your blind spot first.
