Jackson wins two awards
Louisville quarterback LamarJacksoncap- tured the Maxwell Award as the nation’ s top college player Thursday night in Atlanta and signaled himself as the clear favorite for the He isman Trophy. Jackson already had won the Walter Camp Award, also given to the best player. But in an interesting twist, Clemson’s Deshaun Watson claimed the Davey O’ Brien award as the nation’s top quarterback for the second year in a row— beating out Jackson.
In Moraga, Calif., Kevin Hervey scored 15 points and UT Arlington beat a Top 25 team for the first time in program history, shocking previously unblemished No. 12 Saint Mary’s 65-51.
